As the weather warms, your friends at Malloy Ford would like to remind you that it’s time to start preparing your vehicle for springtime. Both the engine and the exterior of your Ford should be regularly examined to ensure that it is running at the highest level of efficiency possible. Making sure your car is up to snuff also makes the car safer to operate for you and your family. Of course, we always encourage customers take their cars in for a spring tune-up, but there a number of things you can do from home to keep your Ford running like it should.

Make sure that you’re always checking the fluids of your vehicle, pulling out the dipsticks and examining the fill line. If you’re not sure where your fluids are located, then check out your Ford’s manual. All the snow this winter season may have drained your windshield fluid dry, and now that it is warming up, it would be a great time to fill it back up. Your windshield wipers should also be checked out to make sure the blades aren’t mangled or run down.

Take a look under the hood as well, checking hoses and belts to ensure there is no fraying or deterioration. If there are any issues with the belts or hoses, then you should get them replace right away. Give your belts a pull or two to make sure they are still tight enough to do their job. If they are loose, that is something you should get repaired. Inspect the radiator hose specifically. If it feels too soft when the engine is warm, then it may be time to purchase a new hose. Tire pressure should also be checked regularly and adjusted accordingly.

If you’re worried about your fuel economy, then you may want to take a quick look at your Ford’s spark plugs. If they are worn-out, then you may be eating up more gas than necessary. Directly after winter is the optimal time to replace your spark plugs and grant yourself top-not fuel efficiency. Examine your Ford up and down to make sure there isn’t any rust. If there is, make sure it is taken care of before it spreads to rest of your vehicle. That way your Ford stays as gorgeous as when you drove it off our lot!
