Back in 1968, Ford first created the RS performance brand in Cologne, Germany. All these years later, the new Ford Focus RS is being unveiled on the very same hallowed ground that the forefathers of this car drove on.

This past February, Ford stated that the Focus RS will be the very first car in all of North America to offer a winter tire package as a factory option from the original equipment manufacturer. Ford is making history with this new Focus RS and Malloy Ford of Charlottesville invites you to join us on the ride.

Developed by engineers in the U.S. and Europe, built at Ford’s manufacturing plant in Saarlouis, Germany. The Ford Focus RS is going to change the market when it comes to all-wheel-drive cars as it is now arriving at dealerships.

The aforementioned tire package will be available for order in the United States and comes standard in Canada. This package also includes 25/40R18 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires attached to 18 x 7.5-inch wheels. The smaller overall diameter of the tire is present to fit chains onto the wheels and was tested in the snow of Northern Michigan and Sweden.

Under the hood of the Ford Focus RS, you’ll find a specially designed 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, granting the driver 350 horsepower. The Focus RS also features a ‘drift mode’ that allows drives to perform a perfect drift, a sideways four-wheel skid, at the push of a button. The RS utilizes a unique four-wheel drive powertrain, which uses a pair of clutch packs on the rear axle to spread out the power.

Ford stated of this feature, “Drift mode is targeted for track use only — a disclaimer appears on (the instrument) cluster when switching modes. We believe the drift and track modes are appropriate for racetracks, and that typical Focus RS customers will understand the need to deploy these features under controlled and safe conditions such as during a track day.”
